Concerto for Guitar in Peculiar Tuning and Chamber Orchestra

(2012)

  • Fragment 1
  • Fragment 2
Performers: Marek Nosal, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra, Marek Moś

This work is an unusual concert - a one-movement structure, with several distinguishable links separated by the soloist's cadences. Two main thematic ideas can be identified here - one consonant, with quasi-tonal and lyrical harmonics, and the other definitely more dissonant, harmonically derived from the title, peculiar quarter-tone guitar tuning, of a character very different to the first. The material of both thoughts is present in both the guitar and the orchestra. The themes are first shown in full contrast, during the piece they gradually interpenetrate each other more and more to be synthesized at the end - to what extent the world of tonality complements, and to what extent excludes with quarter-tone, everyone has their own answer ...

The piece was written at the end of 2011 and in the first quarter of 2012, commissioned by the 14th Festival "Silesian Guitar Autumn" in Tychy.
